HS-LS2-3Cycling of Matter and Energy Flow

Performance expectation

Construct and revise an explanation based on evidence for the cycling of matter and flow of energy in ecosystems.

What NYSED says about assessing it

Clarification statement

Emphasis is on conceptual understanding of the role of aerobic and anaerobic respiration and photosynthesis within ecosystems.

Assessment boundary

Assessment does not include the specific chemical processes of aerobic respiration, anaerobic respiration, and photosynthesis.

The three dimensions

Every item written to HS-LS2-3 has to assess all three dimensions together, not the content alone. This is the structural change that made older practice material stop matching the exam.
